SEO is insanely important for growing your blog. It affects where and how your site and blog posts will be displayed. It’s important on your site, on social media like Pinterest, and even on YouTube and other platforms. Today I want to talk about some great SEO tips and tricks.
SEO Tips – Keyword Research
SEO is a combination of a few factors, but one of the most important ones is having a focus keyword that appears throughout your page. The more you use your keyword without being obnoxious, the higher your page will rank for that specific keyword.
To do keyword research, first, nail down a blog post that you’d like to write. For example, this post I wanted to write about SEO. There are a ton of tools you can use for keyword research, but I’ll show you the free tools I like to use. The first tool I use is the Google Keyword Planner. I first type in SEO. From here, I can see that the simple term ‘seo’ has a huge monthly search volume, but also has medium competition with a fairly high CPC.
From there, I’m able to identify that yes, SEO is a good topic to write on. I narrow down what I want to write about, and then try searching some long tail keywords to nail down what I want my short keywords as well as the other keywords I’d like to incorporate.
When I type in “ensure every blog post has the best SEO possible”, I see that “SEO tips”, “SEO blog”, and “SEO writing” have 1-10K searches, low competition, and a fairly low CPC. I then decide to incorporate those three keywords, with my main keyword being SEO tips.
If you’re struggling to think of keywords or ways to narrow down your writing, try Pinterest or a simple google search. I usually sit down at the beginning of the month while I’m outlining and planning the month’s posts and identify their keywords. It helps to get it done in batches.
Using Your Keywords
While just beginning with SEO, I suggest just focusing on getting your main focus keyword into every single one of these places. Once you’ve mastered that, you can start incorporating the other ones into these places as well.
- Title & URL
- Meta Description
- Headings and Subheadings
- In the post at least three times
- In the alt description for any images
Some other factors in SEO include backlinks, which means that someone on a different site linked to your site. You can increase these by doing guest posts, commenting on other people’s posts and participating in round-ups. You should also be linking internally, that is, to other pages/posts on your site, throughout each post as well.
